Bio:
Tom, originally from the UK, holds a degree in Mathematics from the University of Warwick, where he specialised in applied mathematics. During his degree, he spent time studying in Paris and subsequently worked in a research lab there, focussing on applying machine learning to the evolution of language. As a keen sports enthusiast and following experience working in the fantasy sports industry, Tom has been inspired to focus his research on sports video, with a particular interest in making sports broadcasting more accessible.
PhD research:
My research explores LLM-based persuasion, with a particular focus on multilingual contexts, examining how large language models adapt persuasive strategies across languages and cultures. In parallel, my work investigates political communication in the digital age, focusing on how politicians discuss issues on right-wing social media platforms. Together, these strands aim to deepen our understanding of how digital technologies shape political discourse and influence attitudes across cultural and linguistic boundaries.
